The hem should imply morning without naming it.

Curtains do more than filter light. In a guest room, they can also help a visitor understand that the room has enjoyed the visit and should not be asked to develop attachments.
Mavis Tallow recommends pale linen or cotton curtains for overnight guests who may confuse comfort with tenancy. The fabric should move when the window opens, but not in a way that appears to beckon.
"A guest room should be kind," Tallow said. "It should not imply that the household has found a new branch."
Fabric
Choose linen, cotton, or a quiet blend with enough weight to hang cleanly. Avoid velvet, heavy damask, and anything described as "heirloom." Heirloom curtains make guests ask about winter holidays before they have located the towels.
The best curtain says, "You slept well." It does not say, "We have begun remembering you seasonally."
Length
Hang the panels just above the floor. A slight break at the hem can look relaxed, but too much pooling suggests the room has settled in for a longer story.
If the fabric gathers dramatically, shorten it. Drama belongs in the hallway mirror, where it can be closed in a closet.
Light
Morning light should enter cleanly and early. Blackout curtains are useful for infants, night-shift workers, and anyone hiding from an inheritance conversation. For ordinary guests, they can delay the natural social process by which breakfast becomes departure.
Layer a simple shade behind the curtain if privacy is needed. Do not overbuild the window. A window with too many treatments starts acting like a second host.
Color
Use warm white, soft gray, oat, faded blue, or green so pale it has no ambition. Avoid patterns with birds, fruit, ships, or houses. Guests are vulnerable to symbols near dawn.
When in doubt, choose the curtain you would want to see while folding a borrowed sweater into a suitcase you should have packed the night before.
