Researchers said Saturday that a spoon that measures how serious breakfast has become is now part of the lab record, after kitchen researchers found many morning meals were carrying emotional loads without instrumentation.
The spoon reads pressure, stirring speed, silence length, and the angle at which a person watches coffee cool.
"Breakfast often begins as food and becomes evidence," said Dr. Mira Pell, domestic instrumentation engineer. "The spoon helps households know when that transition has occurred."
How It Works
A small sensor in the handle assigns each meal a seriousness score before advising whether to proceed, pause, or open a window.
Public Response
Test users said the device was useful, though several disabled alerts after it classified yogurt as pending testimony.
What Happens Next
Engineers are developing a fork version for lunches that become meetings without consent.
